In a process for developing photographic bases, in particular film discs or film strips wound spirally onto developing reels, the film discs or film spirals are set into intermittent rotary motion in the treatment bath. The jerky rotary motion generates a discontinuous, always changing motion of the bath, which favours intimate contact between the film surface to be treated and the treatment fluid and ensures constant fluid exchange in the contact zones. In an apparatus for applying the process, a spindle (12) carries the film discs (19) to be treated or the developing reel with the spirally wound film strips in the interior of a tank (1) receiving the treatment fluid (2) and is coupled via magnetic coupling elements (16, 37) to the shaft (35) of a motor (34) which is electrically fed via a supply circuit with a timer device. <IMAGE>
