In a device for focusing an optical system having a guide tube and a tube which is guided in or on the latter and which contains at least parts of the optical system, in which device to focus the system the guide tube and tube are displaced relative to one another through a rotary movement converted into a linear movement, the guide tube is provided with at least one guide groove extending parallel to the axis of the guide tube. A rotatable setting ring is mounted on the guide tube so as to be non-displaceable in the axial direction, which setting ring is provided, at its internal envelope surface, with a profile grooving which is helically coiled about its axis of rotation. At least one guide piece engaging into the guide groove and at least one slider which is operatively connected to the profile grooving are mounted on the tube.
