The invention starts from a hydraulic brake and steering-brake system for motor vehicles, in which two separately or jointly actuable tandem master cylinders (1, 2) are used to generate the brake pressure, in which first pressure chambers (12) of the tandem master cylinders (1, 2) each supply one wheel brake (13, 20) at one vehicle axle which can be steering-braked and in which second pressure chambers (15) of the tandem master cylinders (1, 2) are hydraulically interconnected and supply wheel brakes (16, 17) at another vehicle axle. In order to ensure that approximately the same pedal travels arise for the same actuating force (F) in normal braking mode and in steering-braking mode, it is proposed that each tandem master cylinder (1, 2) have a filling stage which delivers into the first pressure chamber (12) and can be switched off in the event of a pressure in the second pressure chambers (15). <IMAGE>
