PURPOSE:To prevent the read error of index data in the quick traversing mode by providing a synchronizing bit pulse before each bit of index data and recording a formed pulse train in the beginning of information to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:In the quick traversing mode, when nine continuous pulses P1- P9 are detected, they are recognized as a cue signal to read index data from a pulse train coming following them. In case that index data is read, the fall of each of synchronizing bit pulses S1-S4 is used as the base point, and data is read after a prescribed time tc from this base point. The time tc is set between a time t1 and t2. Therefore, the relation between the time t1 from the fall of each of pulses S1-S4 to the start of each of data signals D4-D1 and the time t2 from said fall to the end of each of signal D4-D1 is so set at a pulse train generation time that this relation is equal to a ratio of a minimum speed to a maximum speed of the tape in the quick traversing mode. |
