A compound regeneratively fired coke oven battery of the Coffee type comprises hair-pin heating flues 30-33, main passages 54, 56 58, 60 and 61 with branch passages to adjacent heating flue legs disposed between said heating flues, two sets of regenerators 47, 48 and 50, 52 serving each heating wall and associated with reversing valve 82, and a threeway valve 78 supplying rich gas through lines 80, 80a. Reversing valve 82 has waste gas outlets 85, 87, 88, 90, air inlets 86, 89 and lean gas inlets 84, 91. Alternate main passages 54, 58 and 61 are connected to regenerator 52 and passages 56 and 60 to regenerator 47. Heating flue legs 6, 9, 10 and 13 are connected to regenerator 50 and flue legs 7, 8, 11 and 12 are connected to regenerator 48. With these connections alternate hair-pin flues are fired in opposite directions, regenerators 47 and 48 being on waste gases, regenerator 50 supplying air, and regenerator 52 supplying lean gas. On reversal regenerators 47 and 52 and regenerators 48 and 50 change functions. When firing is by rich . gas alone, the pairs of regenerators 47, 48 and 50, 52 will operate alternately on waste gases and air. |
