1302025 Piezo-electric generators VERNITRON Ltd 12 Jan 1970 [10 Jan 1969] 1744/69 Heading H2A A piezo-electric unit for an igniter comprises a cylindrical insulating casing with metal end caps between which are located, as shown in Fig. 5, a pair of piezo-electric elements P 1 , P 2 with an electrode T between them. The unit is located in an insulated metal casing C which constitutes the other electrode and is adapted to be struck by a spring-loaded hammer H. Alternatively the unit may be compressed by a lever and cam arrangement. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, a single piezo-electric element 7 is located in the insulating casing 12 with electrodes 6, 8 at opposite ends which are separated from the end caps 4, 10 by insulators 5, 9. All the units so far described produce a single output. Fig. 7 shows a unit for producing two separate outputs. A pair of elements 24, 28 with respective pairs of electrodes 23, 25 and 27, 29 are mounted in an insulating casing with insulator 22, 26, 30 between the end caps and adjacent electrodes and between the electrodes 25, 27, A similar unit with three elements is also described, Fig. 9 (not shown). Each pair of electrodes may be connected to a pair of spark gaps for igniting the burners of a cooker, Figs. 11-13 (not shown). |
