Compounds of the formula wherein X is oxygen or sulfur; R1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; and R2 is methyl or ethyl; and non-toxic, physiologically acceptable salts thereof formed with an inorganic or organic base. The compounds as well as their salts are useful as sweetening agents.
