The bursting of rock material can be carried out by feeding heat locally to, in this case, gas-heated attachment, located in a drilling hole in the material, at which cracks occur as a result of thermal expansion. The attachment, which is a radiant tube burner with an open burning pipe in the one end and equipped with a medium for fuel-full air supply, is characterised by a design with a low gas resistance, of complete combustion within the burning pipe and with the combustion gases returning between the burning pipe and the drill hole.Heating continues until the area of the crack has expanded a few mm, when the mounting between the block sections has been reduced in strength so that separation is easy accomplished with wedging. The method and attachment are primarily intended for working with pieces of rock (boulder bursting) and stones in the ground, and is, due to its simplicity even suitable for non-professionals.The procedure has also been used for adjusting bedrock next to residential buildings where normal blasting has been risky. Thus, it may be possible to even use the device within professional building operations.<IMAGE> |
