The cavity wall comprises an inner (2) and an outer (6) wall skin connected via wall ties (11). An insulation layer is arranged in the cavity (15) and spaced (3,5) from the two skin walls. This layer consists of e.g. polystyrene plates (4) which are intercoupled via tongue and groove connections (9) and are provided with pref. hemi-spherical projections (10) on both surfaces to act as spacers. Sealing discs of e.g. rubber are pref. placed on the ties where these extend through the plates. The faces of the plates may be provided with triangular-section projections to improve sound insulation.
