Apparatus for dispensing labels comprising a handle with start button, a roll of labels on a strip, and a driving roller to feed the strip during the dispensing process. Between the roll of labels and the driving roller there is an engaging piece in contact with the strip. When the starting button is actuated, the engaging piece is moved slightly further than the length of one label, thereby moving the strip a corresponding distance. The movement of the engaging piece causes rotation of the driving roller which thereby feeds the strip so that it is held stretched between the point of contact and the driving roller. Between the engaging piece and the driving roller there is a driving element consisting of a gearing rack fixed to the engaging piece and a gearwheel fixed to the axis of the driving roller.
