Converters on the drive and driven shafts of a gearbox are powered from power circuits to provide d.c. signals of different polarity. The driven shaft converter output is applied to a relay ( driven transistor and to an amplifier input circuit. The drive shaft converter output is applied to a resistive voltage modulating circuit where except for first gear a voltage is applied which corresponds to a particular gear. These circuits are connected to the amplifier input while a second set of resistors sets the amplifier gain. The amplifier output is applied to two comparators for different threshold levels. Their outputs drive transistors for power circuits through optocouplers when these are switched on by the relay. The power circuits drive electrovalves of actuators which assist the gearchange operation.
