PURPOSE:To improve the write efficiency and to restore information, which is compressed to be written, to the original state at the reading time, by compressing a large quantity of blank characters included in write information and writing them on a magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:In an information compressing circuit, blank characters are converted to Snu when >=4 continuous blank characters are included in write information. S indicates that blank characters are compressed, and (n) is the number of blank characters, and (u) indicates the blank character. When the control code S indicating that blank characters are compressed is found in transmitted read information by an information restoring circuit, n-number of blank characters are generated in accordance with (n) following S. Since continuous blank characters are compressed and written on the magnetic tape in this manner, more information can be written, and the magnetic tape is used efficiently. |
