PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for agricultural chemicals such as herbicide, etc. from inexpensive raw materials simply by a process with good handleability industrially advantageously, by reacting a primary or secondary amine with sulfur and CO in the presence of a selenium catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A primary or secondary amine(e.g., methylamine, ethylamine, n-propylamine, aniline, aziridine, pyrrolidine, etc.) shown by the formula I is reacted with sulfur and CO(e.g., a small amount of H may be admitted, or a mixture of it and a gas such as N, helium, etc. inert to the reaction may be used) in the presence of a selenium catalyst(e.g., metal selenium, amorphous selenium, carbonyl selenide, etc.), to give a thiocarbamate shown by the formula II. The hydrogen acceptor A is required in the reaction as shown by the reaction formula, the raw material amine itself can used as the hydrogen acceptor, or another basic compound(e.g., trimethylamine, or caustic soda) may be added to the reaction system. |
