The tubular protective seat cover (5) is moved from a fresh tube supply roll (7) over the seat by a drive mechanism (19). The cover is then moved into a used tube collector (21) in the form of a fixed container or foil bag. The used tube is moved through an opening in the container wall and the container can be easily exchanged from outside. So that the used tube can be stored up in space-saving manner in the container, it is divided up into pieces on entry by a suitable divider mechanism provided at the wind-up mechanism (15).
