PURPOSE:To eliminate the space where leakage light is passed and give ferromagnetism, and to improve isolation characteristics by arranging a permanent magnet on the top surface of a Faraday rotator and inserting a permanent magnet between an incidence and a projection side polarizing prism on the reverse surface. CONSTITUTION:The Faraday rotator 3 is arranged in the center of a yoke 11; the permanent magnet 2 is arranged on its top surface, the incidence side polarizing prism 4 is provided at one end of the reverse surface, and a half-wavelength plate 6 and the projection side polarizing prism 5 are arranged at the other end. The lower permanent magnet 12 is interposed between the polarizing prisms 4 and 5 to eliminate unnecessary space, and magnetic resistance is reduced to intensify a magnetic field applied to the rotator 3. Therefore, the permanent magnet 12 is reduced in thickness by as much as that the magnetic field is intensified by putting the permanent magnet 12 closely to the rotator 3, thereby reducing the overall size of the yoke 11. Further, leakage light generated in the space between the polarizing prisms 4 and 5 is eliminated, so the isolation characteristics are improved. |
