PURPOSE:To detect and correct an error in (n) bits or less in a coded signal with a recognition coding/decoding system, by using a table of a font pattern having (2n+1) or more mutual hamming distance. CONSTITUTION:The minimum hamming distance is set at (2n+1) between patterns of font pattern tables 3 and 10. When an error of (n) bits arises in an output code 8 which is sent to a decoding part 9 from a coding part 2, the error is recovered for decoding by selecting the minimum number of different bits between the code 8 and the table 10. In this case, the different bit number is equal to (n+1) between other font patterns although the different bit number is equal to (n) between the code 8 and an original input code 4. An error can be detected from a different bit to a font pattern having the minimum different bit number when the code 8 given from an error generating source 7 is collated with the table 10 at the part 9. |
