The invention relates to a lower tool for a folding press for folding metal sheets, having a tool holder arranged on a crossbeam and a folding tool which can be inserted in the tool holder. The tool holder can be divided in the longitudinal direction of the crossbeam. Both halves of the tool holder can be adjusted transversely to the longitudinal direction of the crossbeam. An exchangeable folding cheek can be inserted into each half of the tool holder. Both folding cheeks form the folding tool, forming an adjustable folding gap between them. This makes it unnecessary to replace the folding tool when folding sheets of differing thicknesses to give different folding angles. <IMAGE>
