<p>A portable, two-speed cassette tape recorder operable at both standard and slow speeds of less than 1.15 cm per second and driven by an electric motor (30) of low-cost category having a motor shaft (31) rotation rate of less than 700 rpm when operated at such slow speed. Recorder operation at low speed is accomplisehed by a tape drive system having a balanced flywheel (51) and pulley drive reel (52) integrally coupled to the motor output shaft (31). A drive pulley (33) is coupled to the capstan drive wheel (34) and cassette reel drive wheel (38) to provide the desired slow speed tape movement useful for speech reproduction. </p> |
