The detonating circuit for an explosive or an explosive device for driving a projectile in a firearm or the like operates by means of an electrical detonating spark between electrodes which are spaced apart, in order to detonate the explosive or the explosive device. The detonating circuit is equipped with a battery, control switch, transistor and step-up transformer, and has an oscillator circuit with a multivibrator for connecting the transistor in order to supply battery pulses to the primary winding of the transformer and to produce high-voltage pulses on the secondary winding of the transformer, which high-voltage pulses are applied to the electrodes. The operating cycle and frequency of the oscillator circuit are adjustable in order to obtain an optimum output with a minimum load on the battery.
