PURPOSE:To improve stability and accuracy, by controlling the optical beat frequency generated between laser oscillated light beams having different polarizations which are crossed at a right angle each other so that the frequency becomes constant. CONSTITUTION:Dissociation of degeneracy of a level, wherein a quantum number of magnetism is different, is performed in a laser discharge tube, by the earth's magnetic field or other magnetic fields. The dissociation of the degeneracy and the oscillated light due to the optical anisotropy of a resonant mirror 2 become two different polarized light beams which are crossed each other at a right angle. An electric processing is performed by a control circuit device 5 so that the beat frequency generated in a part 51 of the oscillated light becomes constant. A temperature control device 6 is operated, the length of a resonator is controlled, and the frequency is stabilized. Laser luminous flux 52 is divided into a reference luminous flux 53 and a length measuring luminous flux 54 by a part (a) of a beam splitter 7. The luminous fluxes 53 and 54 are relfected twice by roof mirrors 8 and 9. The positions of the roof mirrors 8 and 9 are adjusted so that a part (b), at which the luminous fluxes enter the beam splitter 7, is different from the first incident part (a). |
