The undercloths running around in drum vulcanising machines underneath the looped-around pressure belt, in direct contact with the material being vulcanised, in the form of endless bands exhibit shrinking effects during use as a result of the tensile forces acting in the running direction in combination with the elevated temperatures to which they are constantly subjected, these effects restricting or completely ruling out the possibilities of using the bands the more their width is reduced. According to the invention, the undercloths are stabilised against this disadvantageous contraction in width by means of a novel layer structure having a transverse reinforcement, so that they fully retain the dimensions in which they were produced over long operating periods. As a side effect, the invention also creates the advantageous possibility, if need be, of detaching the upper rubber layer of the undercloths without great difficulty from the still usable underlying fabric and replacing it with a new covering.
