The present invention relates to a set of collapsible steps. The invention is characterised in that the device (4) for holding the steps when they are extended and for retracting the same into the collapsed state comprises two guides (5). In each case one end of the guide is connected, on the two cheek ends of the step element (1), to the frame (2) which is fastened to the ceiling (3) so as to be movable. The guides which are attached in this way to the opposite side of the frame are movable as far as their position is concerned. This is ensured by two bolts (7), each of which is fastened to the frame (2) by way of a plate (9) and each of which extends in a longitudinal groove (10) which is provided at the other end of the guide (5), and by two restoring springs (8), each of which is fastened on one side by way of a securing means (12) to the plate (9), which exhibits the bolt (7), and on the other side to the guide (5), near the point where one end of the guide is connected to the step element (1). <IMAGE>
