The invention relates to an apparatus for transporting and storing workpieces for the interlinking of at least two successive handling and/or processing stations possibly with different cycle sequences in respect of the shut-down times for the workpieces to be handled and/or processed, comprising at least one device for transporting the workpieces to the first station and one device for transporting them away from the final station, and comprising at least one transport means for connecting the respective two successive stations, and, for reasons of simple design and gentle handling of the workpieces, the two successive stations are interconnected by at least one further transport means, the one transport means or a further transport means can in each case be driven at a speed corresponding to the cycle of the front station, while the further transport means or the one transport means can be driven in each case at a speed corresponding to the cycle of the rear station, and the front station delivers the workpieces in each case to the transport means driven at the speed corresponding to that station's cycle, while the further station receives the workpieces in each case from the transport means driven at the speed corresponding to the further station's cycle.
