A stamping device (14, 15, 21) is drive-connected to a device for the discontinuous drive of a transport roller (11) for advancing a punched card (12) in steps through the stamping device, the advance being capable of taking place selectively either in an uninterrupted sequence over a relatively large number of steps or in individual steps. An externally controlled stamping-tool selector device (16) serves for determining the particular stamping tools (15) to be put into operation. Incorporated in the rotary transmission between the shaft (3a) of the drive motor and the transport roller (11) are a shift coupling and a stepping device (6, 7, 9) with a positive rotational connection of their driving and driven members in the rotary transmission in this sequence. <IMAGE>
