Large-volume stirred vessels with a ratio of stirrer diameter/vessel diameter (d/D) of approximately 0.5 and with stirrer types which primarily impart axial motion and which essentially act by a mechanism of flow interference - in contrast to those with traditional non-interfering blade stirrers which act only radially and which therefore require high energy expenditure - in particular for adjusting or homogenising supersaturated and structurally viscous dye solutions. Imparting motion in an axial direction is effected in one stirrer type by propeller-shaped or propeller-like design of the individual blade (so-called propeller blade stirrer); in other stirrer types, the above-mentioned as well as the planar arrangement is formed by several interfering pitched blades having the same pitch angle (so-called louvred propeller stirrer or louvred stirrer). All these stirrer elements can also be provided with a bottom scraper and/or wall scraper, of which the latter may have additional, similarly interfering, pitched blades. The stirred vessels equipped with these stirrer elements are characterised by improved stirring action together with simultaneous saving of energy, these stirrer types being readily washable like the traditional blade stirrers. <IMAGE>
