When the data which are necessary for reproducing each connecting path set through the switching network (KN) and which define the tested switching point and the switching matrix located in the course of this connecting path, are provided for setting up this connecting path, they are simultaneously written into an auxiliary memory and temporarily stored. When an error occurs, the content of the temporary store, together with a code which is permanently allocated to each error occurring with a particular test criterion, is in each case transferred into an error memory (FSP). The content of the error memory can be displayed on a display and/or printed out. A corresponding instruction input has the effect that the connecting path corresponding to an error event is again set and the associated test criterion is sent out. If its evaluation by the test equipment (PE) shows that freedom from errors exists, the error event registered during the first test is considered to be a random error and the error entry made with respect to the original test process is deleted. <IMAGE>
