A motor vehicle has an opening roof which can be raised and swivelled back by means of swivel arm pairs which engage laterally in the end region of said roof, until this roof is laid on the rear space, if appropriate at a certain distance. Conversely, the roof can also be closed again in this way and sealed and secured in the front edge region. As a result, it is possible to use a vehicle with a rigid roof both as a convertible and as an appropriately safe limousine without additional frame constructions or the like being necessary and without additional storage space for the opening roof being lost in the rear space.
