PURPOSE:To obtain a precise length gage, which characterized by light weight, easy handling, small attitude errors, high dimensional stability, high durability and excellent sliding property, by constituting the main body of the precise length gate by a carbon fiber reinforced carbon material. CONSTITUTION:A precise length gage, e.g., an M-type vernier calipers, has a main scale 1 comprising a carbon fiber reinforced carbon material, a jaw 5 made of stainless steel and a slider 10 made of stainless steel. The carbon fiber reinforced carbon material is prepared by reinforcing a carbon matrix comprising soft carbon, hard carbon and thermally decomposed carbon with carbon fiber of a rayon series, a pitch series, polyacrylonitile series, or the like. In this way, the precise length gage, which is characterized by light weight, small attitude errors, high dimensional stability, high durability and excellent sliding property, can be obtained. |
