For the production of exposed aggregate concrete elements, in particular those on which fines have been washed out, for lining the mould with a coated sheet-like base material a plastic sheet is proposed which is waterproof, alkali-proof and retains its shape and preferably consists of expandable polystyrene (EPS). This base material is dimensionally stable under the stresses occurring during placing, compacting and setting of the concrete.
