The invention includes methods and apparatus permitting the central changeover of thermostatic valves on room radiators between two preselectable temperature levels (control levels). Here, the central control signal and likewise the required changeover energy are transmitted via the heating medium by selecting the flow direction or the flow temperature. Thus no additional connections are required between the central control unit and the thermostatic valves. Various solutions are given for the function and design of the thermostatic valves which can be changed over, and can be embodied both with commercial thermostatic valves in connection with special valve combinations and also with commercial thermostatic valves in combination with special preheating elements.
