Facsimile information is transmitted via a data processing centre, which may be designed in particular as a telephone exchange, to a telephone terminal station. This terminal station has a simple facsimile receiver with interchangeable buffer storage means, which can be used on telephone terminal stations with facsimile units equipped for reception, transmission and reproduction. The simple facsimile receiver may be allocated to at least one facsimile unit equipped for reception, transmission and reproduction and may be designed so that, at the end of every facsimile information transmission, a connection is automatically set up to a free allocated telephone terminal station, and the facsimile information is transmitted to the latter, where it is reproduced. When an allocated terminal station is busy, the connection may, where appropriate, be set up to a different free terminal station for the purpose of reproducing the information. The completion of the reproduction of all the transmitted information is acknowledged in the transmitting terminal station.
