In order to prevent bars of material (2) machined in an automatic lathe from vibrating, two bearings (35) in the form of semi- cylindrical rings are arranged between the lathe, which clamps the front end of the bars (2), and the guide tube (7), where the rotary head (11, 18) of the pusher (8) holds their rear end. The bearings (35) are simply slipped into the inner raceway (36) of a ball bearing (31) which is mounted permanently in a fixed steady (28). Depending on the diameter of the bar (2) to be machined, the user makes an aperture (38) in the bearings (35), which aperture is adapted to the profile of this bar so that the bearings rotate with it, clamping it firmly. When it traverses the steady (28) before entering the spindle of the lathe, the end of the rotary head (11, 18) of the pusher ejects the bearings (35), deforming slightly the ring (39) which normally retains them. The bearings (35) are replaced when loading a new bar (2).

|
