PURPOSE:To make a low polarization dispersed connection and a maximum polarization dispersed connection between optical fibers by emitting pulse light by using a semiconductor laser and using the pulse light. CONSTITUTION:Mode lock YAG laser light is used and inputted to an optical fiber and output light is sent to a detector. Then when the plane 18 of polarization of linear polarized pulse light is not coincide with the principal axis of the 1st optical fiber, two pulses 20 and 21 appear on a cathode-ray tube image 19 on a synchroscope. In this case, those pulse light 20 and pulse light 21 have a long and a short axis respectively. This is applied to a connection between polarization convervative optical fibers. For the low polarization dispersed connection, pulse light along the long axis of the core 1 of the 1st optical fiber 9 is matched with the short axis of the 2nd optical fiber, so the 2nd optical fiber 12 is rotated to extinguish pulse light 24. For the maximum polarization dispersed connection, on the other hand, the long axes of the two optical fibers are made coincident with each other, so the 2nd optical fiber 12 is only rotated so that pulse light 25 along the long axis is extinguished. |
