The back-rest (1) comprises: - suspension means (24) permitting a totally independent suspension of the back-rest with respect to the seat part (3); - means (9 to 12) enabling the impression of the back of the user to be imprinted thereon mechanically in a permanent and controlled manner; - means (7-8) making it possible to sustain part of the weight of the user; the seat part (3) itself being suspended from a parallelogram (15-16-17) whose height can be adjusted independently, at any time, in order to transfer more or less of the load to the back-rest, as desired by the user.
