A memory system has a first memory unit (1) and a second memory unit (2). The first memory unit (1) comprises a magnetic bubble memory and is divided into a plurality of blocks (10, 11,... 1n). Each block has an address (a10, a11, .. . a1n). The second memory unit (2) comprises a RAM having a faster access time than the first memory unit, a block location of a step to be read stored in the magnetic bubble memory is retrieved by the second memory unit so that the information in the block is rapidly accessed bused on the retrieved information.
