At least one metal component is extracted from a solid or molten metal mixture by adding to the mixture, at raised temp., a molten additional metal (A) in which the component(s) dissolve at the given temp. Molten (A) containing the dissolved component(s) is cooled to an extent such that component(s) separate from soln. and is/are recovered as precipitate. Pref. for extracting first and second component, molten (A) is further cooled, after recovering first component, until second component precipitates from soln. Process is used for extraction of Fe, Cu, Cr and/or Co from alloys, pref. using Bi or Pb-Bi eutectic as (A). |
