Acrylonitrile filaments are extruded downwardly from a compression zone, where particles are mixed with water to form an extrusion melt for delivery through a spinneret into a steam-pressurized solidification zone which suppresses release of water from the nascent filaments and avoids bubbling. Pref. the filaments are drawn, while in the solidi fication, in two stages.
