2-Isopropylaminopyrimidine was prepd. Thus, 10g 2-methyl thiopyrimidine in 100ml H2O was treated with Cl gas, adjusted to pH 8.0 with K2CO3, extd., and dried with Na2SO4 to give 11.3g 2-methylsulfonyl-pyrimidine. 2g of the latter compd. was dissolved in 20ml isopropylamine and refluxed. After 1 hr, isopropylamine of the resulting mixt. was removed and 100mL H2O was added. The soln. was adjusted to pH 9.0 with H2CO3, extd., and dried with Na2SO4 to give 1.7g 2-isopropyl-aminopyrimidine in ˜100% yield.
