PURPOSE:To produce efficiently in one step a cation exchanger containing both a sulfonic acid group and a crosslinking group, by treating a molding of a monovinylaromatic compound polymer with sulfuric acid containing a formaldehyde source. CONSTITUTION:A molding (e.g., film or fiber) of a (co)polymer of a (monovinylaromatic compound polymer (e.g., styrene or vinylhaphthalene), which copolymer may contain polypropylene or the like as a reinforcing polymer, is immersed in sulfuric acid of a concentration >=92wt%, containing 0.01-5wt% formaldehyde source (e.g., paraformaldehyde), in an amount of about 3-200pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. molding and reacted at about 20-110 deg.C for about 0.5-20hr. |
