DICTIONARY COLLATING SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To increase speed of recognition remarkably by enabling discrimination of most patterns to be recognized only by the first dictionary having small number of templates. CONSTITUTION:Characteristic of a recognized pattern obtained in an extraction section 1 is discriminated first by a template stored in the first dictionary 31. Consequently, when the difference between the distance to a template which is at the shortest distance to the characteristics of recognized pattern and distance to a next nearest template exceeds a specified value or when the distance to a template which is at the shortest distance to the characteristics of recognized pattern is shorter than a specified value, the name of category that corresponds to a template which is at the shortest distance is inputted as the result of recognition.
