PURPOSE:To improve chargeability after deep discharge and eliminate separator piercing short circuit by using a lead alloy containing 0.003-0.03% aluminum, 0.1% or more tin, and 0.13% or less calcium as a positive grid and by containing 0.2-1.0wt% sodium in an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A lead alloy containing 0.003-0.03% aluminum, 0.1% or more tin, and 0.13% or less calcium is used in a grid for a positive plate, and a limited amount of electrolyte containing 0.2-1.0wt% sodium ion is used to form a sealed lead-acid battery. In this lead-acid battery, by synergetic effect of aluminum and tin in the grid alloy and sodium ion in the electrolyte, formation of insulating lead oxide layer on the grid surface is prevented and generation of lead hydroxide caused by lead ion dissolved in the electrolyte and separator piercing short circuit are prevented. |
