PURPOSE:To read image information with high accuracy by providing a glow discharge tube for reading image information near a light source for image formation. CONSTITUTION:The glow discharge tube 32 for reading image information is provided integrally in a sub-reflection section 23 of a reflector 24 and lighted at image information reading. In reading an image of an original G, the glow discharge tube 32 is lighted in place of a halogen lamp 21 and light is scanned on the original G. The reflected light from the original G is received by an image sensor 31 via the 1st-3rd mirrors 24-26, an image sensor lens 29 and a filter 30 and image information is read. Since the light from the glow discharge tube 32 suitable for spectral characteristics of the image sensor 31 is used for image information of the original G, thermal characteristics are excellent and the image information is read in an excellent way.
