[Also in Division G3] A rotary valve, for selectively controlling communication between two pneumatic pressure ports 60, 70 and an exhaust port leading from the annulus 44, comprises a valve spool 100 which is arranged so that the pneumatic pressures thereon are in radial balance. Two longitudinal passages 110, 112 are in constant communication with the pressure ports through annular passages 96, 98 and ports 120, 122. The spool has two pairs of chordal slots 132, 134 defining, with the bore of a sleeve 42, chambers which are connected to the passages 110, 112 by small bores 138 and which are placed selectively in communication with the exhaust annulus 44 through pairs of ports 82 92 and 80, 90 in the sleeve 42 on rotation of the spool about a neutral position. The valve may be used in servo mechanisms. Thus the fluid flowing to exhaust from opposite chordal slots into which it issues from the holes 134, 138 balances the valve radially and it is also axially balanced by the passages 110, 112.</p> |
