1291433 Casting concrete structures ROBINSON BUILDING TECHNIQUES Ltd 30 Oct 1968 [1 Nov 1968] 51832/68 Heading E1W Fluid concrete is cast into direct contact with one or more non-expandible, non-contractable bodies which form generally horizontally extending voids, and which are anchored relative to a surface against which the concrete structure is to be formed, each such body comprising a rigid skeleton framework of transverse formers 3 and longitudinal battens 2 covered by one or more layers 1 of strong sheet material to form a substantially non deformable skin which presents an unbroken surface to the fluid concrete. The sheet material may be fibreboard and may be covered, at least on its external surface with a thermoplastic film coating. The bodies may be anchored either by flexible metal bands 5 which may be of stainless steel at portions 7 emerging from the concrete structure or by hook bolts engaging the projecting hooked ends of bolts embedded in a previously cast and set layer of concrete on which the body is placed, Fig. 5 (not shown). The skin may or may not extend completely around the framework. A plurality of bodies may be arranged in abutment to form a continuous void. The skin may be formed of Kraft board sandwiching chipboard and coated on both sides with polyethylene. The sheets may be flat and pliable to shape, or may be moulded. The skin may be formed from layers which overlap. The invention is applicable to structures formed in situ, or precast for subsequent use in large structures.
