The bumper bar for vehicles is made of plastics and consists outer element (12) with curved end sections (14). A lateral walling (22) forms a U-shaped channel (24) with the upper wall (16) of the bumper unit (10) between which are reinforcement ribs (26). A reinforced plastics reinforcement strip (30) has slots (34) which correspond with tabs (28) on the outer element (12). The elements are heat riveted together. Below the box section thus produced is a ventilation grating (38), on either side of which deflector units (40) are heat riveted into place. This forms a cheap, light weight bumper unit with high shock resistance and stability.
