<p>PURPOSE:To discharge sand and mud, water, pebbles and the like out of a drum even when they enter into the drum by the effect of the rotary centrifugal force of the drum, by using a conical cylindrical drum for the drum of a drum type caliper brake. CONSTITUTION:A conical cylinder 8 is disposed concentrically with an axle 1, and the top part of the conical cylinder 8 is fixedly supported by the axle and the skirt part is opened. At the edge of the skirt part of the conical caliper 3 strides over the cylinder wall. When a liquid pressure is applied within the cylinder 4, and a piston 5 is pressed against the cylinder wall side of the conical cylinder 8, the caliper 3 operates to press a friction pad 7 against the outer peripheral wall surface of the drum 8 by the reaction force of the piston 5. As a result, the conical cylinder (drum) 8 which is rotating with the axle is applied with a braking force by pads 6 and 7 provided in opposite. However, the angle of aperture theta of the conical cylinder may be enough as long as it is approximately several degrees. With too large angle of aperture, a troublesome problem may occur in stability, working space and the like when the caliper is fitted in the drum.</p> |
