A check arm 13 for a motor vehicle comprises a single length of spring metal formed generally into a U-shaped configuration with two members 14 and 15 comprising the arm of the U and connected at one end by an integral loop portion 16, hinged at 17 to the body pillar 10. The member 14 terminates in a stop 27. The member 15 has an enlarged loop 28 which encompasses the stop 27 and has a bend 29 for holding members 14 and 15 together. A projection 22 on the door 11 is adapted to have a loose sliding fit within the members 14 and 15 for 2/3 of their length from the pivot 17. A restriction 25 and a detent pocket 26 in the member 15 provides a first holding position for the door. Beyond this point, the distance between the members 14 and 15 is decreased to provide resistance to the movement of the door to the fully open position of Fig. 2.</p> |
