PURPOSE:To facilitate the operation, by detecting an original size to select automatically a corresponding cassette in an electrophotographic copying machine where sheet cassettes of plural sizes can be set. CONSTITUTION:When a sheet original is fed in by an original automatic feeding device, the quantity of rotation of a feed roll during the time from detection of the front end to detection of the rear end by a sensor is measured to detect the length of the original. The width of the original is detected by an optical sensor array provided orthogonally to the feeding direction. One of sheet cassettes of various sizes 106 is selected automatically in accordance with the original size determined in this manner and is indicated by lighting of corresponding one of indicator lamps 107-110. If the cassette of the corresponding size dose not exist, a button 101 is depressed to release the automatic copy mode, and the mode is switched to the manual mode, and a preliminarily set and usual size is selected. A selecting button 105 may be depressed to select another size. |
