A slide 10 moved backwards and forwards feeds material intermittently to an automatic stamping and bending machine. The material is processed during the return, idle stroke of the slide 10. The slide is driven by a rotating crank arm 14 which is seated on a shaft 26 bearing a further crank arm 28, which is connected via a connecting rod 34 to a crank arm 32 secured on a drive shaft 30. The crank arms and the connecting rod are axially spaced. The drive shaft 30 is mounted displaceably on a straight line 46 representing an extension of the slide guideway. The greater the spacing d between the axes of the two shafts 26, 30, the shorter the time for the forward movement of the slide and the longer the time for its return movement for processing in the automatic stamping and bending machine. <IMAGE>
