The invention relates to a mobile measuring probe for determining smoke density or dust concentration by means of the absorbance of light, the light emitted from a source transversing a path through a flow of aerosols or particles and the portion passing through being picked up by a detector. The object of the invention is to provide a mobile measuring probe with which continuous sampling can be carried out under difficult circumstances such as high concentrations by mass exceeding 1 g/m<3>, elevated temperature (up to 150 DEG C) and pressure (4 bar), saturated steam atmosphere and day-long inaccessibility. It is characterised by a cylindrical housing which has two oppositely situated passage openings for the flow carrying the aerosols or particles in a central region, by a light source with focusing optics at one end face of the housing and by further focusing optics at the other end face which direct the light passing in a straight beam path through the flow onto the end of an optical waveguide connected to an evaluation device.
